The Search for the Ultimate Meatball

Earlier this week, we made a meatball recipe from Mario Batali's android app. This app is pretty cool - he has a number of recipes with video instruction for each. It's really a great concept. However, in the video about the meatball recipe, Mario made the claim that his meatball was more tender than [ours]. And this got our competitive spirit up and running a little bit. Our meatball is really tender. And, it's really delicious. But, it's not nearly as good as Bryan's brother's meatball. HIS always blows us away.

Was Mario's meatball really more tender than ours? Well, to find out about that you'll have to check back for the blog post tomorrow. But...

...this got us thinking. Everybody has their "perfect" meatball recipe, as the meatball is such a simple, yet complex type of food. It's cross cultural, not just an Italian thing for sure (Swedish meatballs from Ikea, anyone?) and it's almost always from a family recipe that's been passed down over generations. Some are, as you'd expect, not very good. But others are pure art on a meat canvas. For Mario to think he has the most tender meatball seems a touch arrogant, even for a food network celebrity chef, and a quite a bit short sighted.

I had asked for meatballs, and all I got was a catnip filled toy mouse.

So on this blog, we aim to set the record straight. Over the coming weeks and months, we aim to find the Ultimate Meatball. We want you to submit your favorite meatball recipes, the ones you think are truly the best. They don't have to be the traditional Italian meatball, they can be anything you think might be deemed the winner. Use the form below to submit your recipe, and each week (or every other week, depending on YiRan's tolerance for meatballs and need for variety) we'll pick one to try out, photograph, and review on the site.

Have at it. Submit your contender for the ultimate meatball. Oh, and Mario, just a heads up: you may want to give it another try, because it's not likely your first recipe is going to win!
