Herbie is a precious little character who we really have come to know and love over these last few months since we got him. He's good looking, quick, enthusiastic, and personable. He's also small and a little sneaky.
He loves following us around from room to room - especially to the kitchen - and it's always so nice to see him lift himself up from his spot besides the couch to follow us into the bathroom or bedroom whenever we move around. He really likes being around us!
Unfortunately, this got the better of him on Saturday night. Herbie followed YiRan into the bathroom but didn't make it in quite in time. His little tail got stuck as the door started to close. He let out a little yell alerting her to the situation, stopping her from closing the door any further, and he bolted away.
He was a little scared, but after a few treats he came around and let us check him out. He was wagging his tail around but was a little sensitive about it. We decided to take him over to the Vet emergency room just to make sure everything was in working order.
The pet ER is a whole lot nicer than the people ER. (Thanks to everyone at NYC Veterinary Specialists!) Within moments of walking in we were in a very nice room with a nurse checking out Herbie and taking all his vitals. Shortly thereafter, the doctor came in and checked him out. Asked some questions, felt around, and took a look at his tail. Herbie was really scared when he first got there, but he was very well behaved, and the nurse and doctor both confirmed our belief that he's the cutest cat ever.
After the doctor took off to get the medicine Herbie quickly took the opportunity to start exploring the office. It was really amazing to see him go from being pretty much terrified of the new locale to pouncing around like he owned the place in less than ten minutes. We were proud of him.
Herbie got a shot of medication for the pain and we got some meds to take home for him, but the doctor recommended that we didn't need to do much else, that it would start to feel better on its own pretty quickly. Throughout the day, that's pretty much what it's been. Herbie's been back to his old self, although he may be a little confused as to why he's deserving so many treats today.
In any case, Herbie's OK, but this little Herbergency has reminded us just how fragile and wonderful Herbie is, and how important he is to us. Feel free to give him your best wishes in the comments below! We'll be sure to read them to him while he recovers!
This photo of Herbie was taken a few months ago. At the Vet, we were surprised to learn that he weighs nearly 9 lbs! Looking back, we can see how much he's grown from the tiny kitten we adopted back in July.
Herbie looks stoned on pain meds in that second to last pic. Glad he's doing ok today!
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon, Herbie! Enjoy the extra treats as long as you can!
ReplyDeleteGet better soon Herbster!
ReplyDeleteHi Herbie, sorry to hear about your tail. Remember when I broke mine? Yeah, it hurts and it can take a few days to feel better! Glad YiRan and Bryan are taking good care of you! I had to visit the vet myself two weeks ago...a weird bump was growing on my nose and had to be removed. Turns out it's a benign tumor of some kind...Rosalyn is the only one I will allow to put the medicine on me! But all the treats I get for being so good!! yum! Feel better soon Herbie, your old friend, Sadie
